We are seeking a Fair Lending Field Fellow for the NAACP Economic Department.  The Fellow will assist with the implementation of educational campaigns and strategies around Fair Lending and will implement training curricula for adults and youth in the priority areas of the NAACP Economic Department.

Summary of Duties:

The Fair Lending Field Fellow works under the direct supervision of the Director of Fair Lending.  The fellow will also be supervised on-site by the Regional Field Director.  The position will be comprised of split duties in the Economic Department and the Field Department.  The fellow will devote 60%percent of his/her time to the Economic Department and 40% percent of his/her time to the Field Department.  The duties and responsibilities of the Fair Lending Field Fellow include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist the Director of Fair Lending in coordinating regional, state, and local units in education and training on fair lending issues such predatory mortgage lending, payday lending and other abusive consumer financial services products, fair housing, etc.;
  • Assist the Director of Fair Lending with launching and implementing economic issue campaigns in the area of payday lending.  Activities will include organizing and implementing advocacy campaigns and training and mobilizing State Conferences, units, members and stakeholders to advance the NAACP’s strategic goals and objectives in the respective region;
  • Assist units in specified region with facilitating fair lending workshops/seminars/webinars throughout the year by providing technical assistance to units including the development of toolkits and resource guides regarding Fair Lending;
  • Develop outreach strategies to connect and partner local State Conferences and units with national and local organizations working in the area of fair lending ;
  • Implement NAACP programs and initiatives established by the National Office and such other related activities among local and area units of the region where field services are required; including the implementation of the NAACP civic engagement program;
  • Assist the Regional Field Directors and National Field Directors in carrying out work assignments during State, Regional and the Annual Convention;
  • Provide supervisors with timely monthly and quarterly reports detailing progress toward strategic goals and organizing/advocacy activity of state and local units;
  • Represent  the NAACP at various activities, conferences, conventions etc. related to fair lending;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Fair Lending, Regional Field Director, Senior Director of the Financial Freedom Campaign, EVP/CPO, or President and CEO.


The ideal candidate for this position will possess many, if not all, of the following professional qualifications, competencies and personal qualities:

  • Some college coursework or equivalent experience, bachelor’s degree preferred
  • At least two (2) years of organizing experience, preferably in the area of civil or human rights and economic justice
  • Experience working large, complex organizing campaigns
  • Experience in setting and achieving measurable targets, working as part of a team, and coordinating between multiple stakeholders
  • Experience within the field structure of the NAACP is desirable
  • Ability to handle multiple priority projects and meet established timelines and reporting requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to execute strategic goals, work effectively with state and local leaders and carry out required objectives
  • Excellent analytical, presentation and leadership skills
  • A passion for social justice generally and racial justice specifically
  • Ability to work non-standard hours and travel, as necessary
