SUMMARY:
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization for civil and human rights, seeks a highly experienced Manager - Planned Giving to foster a culture of philanthropy within the Association. This position will require you to develop, maintain, and enhance relationships with existing and prospective donors regarding the inclusion of charitable gifts for the NAACP within their respective financial & estate plans. Provide leadership in the planning and execution of campaign and other development strategies relative to donors and prospective donors of planned & deferred gifts. Coordinate, collaborate, and consult with administration, staff; and volunteers of the Association in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and recognition of donors and prospective donors of planned & deferred gifts. Develop and conduct training within the Association on gift planning and charitable financial & estate planning. In addition, actively manage a portfolio of approximately one hundred existing and prospective major gift donors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters degree required. Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills required.
- Minimum of seven years progressive experience in development or equivalent experience in a related field required, with minimum of three years experience in gift planning, planned & deferred giving or equivalent experience in a related field required.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising required. Demonstrated skills and experience in administration, team building, staff supervision, motivation, and management, as well as a high level of energy and initiative.
- The ability to work effectively with senior administration, staff, volunteer leaders, and volunteer groups, members of the Board, and people of all ages.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills required. Also, must possess strong skills for organization and logistics, document preparation, and group presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of a team. Possess ability to work effectively under deadline, to set and manage priorities, to balance the execution of multiple roles and various projects concurrently.
- Familiarity with management information systems, Word, Excel, Outlook, software, internet, including experience with planned giving software applications. Raiser’s Edge experience preferred.
- The availability to travel extensively and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Under the direction of the Sr. Vice President – Development and Communications, the Manager - Planned Giving will perform the following duties:
- Identify individuals who have both the interest and inclination to support the Association via planned & deferred giving strategies.
- Develop strategies and implement plans to build donor interest and involvement in the initiatives, plans, and priorities of the NAACP.
- Develop effective working relationships with financial advisors, attorneys, and other donor advisors to facilitate planned & deferred gifts by their clients for the NAACP.
- Assist administration, stag and others within the Association in the development of appropriate, effective, and creative proposals and strategies to use charitable financial & estate planning in the solicitation of planned & deferred gifts, and, advise on tax- wise, legal, and related considerations.
- Write and submit solicitation proposals for consideration by individuals and families, either directly and in person, or indirectly as a consultant to others within the Association, as appropriate.
- Collaborate in the gift acknowledgement process to ensure appropriate stewardship of planned & deferred gift donors, and, confirm the status and values (including face value and present value) of planned & deferred gifts and gift expectancies to ensure appropriate recognition, recording, and accounting.
- Implement and direct the Association-wide recognition program for donors of planned & deferred gifts Assist in the naming of such a giving society.
- Develop, plan, and host one annual event for the giving society.
- Develop, design, and implement marketing initiatives regarding charitable financial, estate, and gift planning, including appropriate literature, publications, advertising, and other strategic initiatives.
- Develop, design, and implement both short and long-range fundraising and marketing strategies for planned & deferred giving.
- Serve as central point of contact within the Association for executors, trustees, and legal counsel representing trusts & estates through which distributions of testamentary and other gifts are anticipated.
- Manage the planned & deferred giving database and contact report system.
- Provide leadership for volunteers directly involved in planned & deferred giving, whether via the giving society or other volunteer entity.
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Sr. Vice President – Development and Communications.
Salary: Commensurate with experience
