Reginald F. Lewis Youth Entrepreneurial Institute

Program Goals and Expected Outcomes

The goal of the NAACP Reginald F. Lewis Youth Entrepreneurial Institute(YEI) is to inspire youth to view entrepreneurship as an option for success and to teach them the business skills, leadership, and confidence required to become successful business owners and productive citizens contributing to the continued economic development in their communities. The NAACP is committed to providing meaningful opportunities for young people to excel in entrepreneurship. Our mission is to foster leadership, provide young people with practical economic and educational programs, and offer valuable experiences in the competitive free enterprise. As students travel through the entrepreneurial experience, several outcomes are expected:

  • More thorough understanding of economics, entrepreneurial education, and the impact of these concepts on economic development and community revitalization;
  • Higher levels of support/increased self-esteem due to increased role models and opportunities for learning;
  • Improvement in academic skills, particularly in math, reading, writing and oral communication;
  • Development of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to provide leadership for a company, community, or nation;
  • Acquisition of marketable and life skills that will assist them in the awareness of advanced educational opportunities and career exploration.
