Hi my name is Creyona Baldwin, I am 18 years old and from Toledo, Ohio. I will be attending Xavier University of Louisiana in the fall. This summer I had the opportunity to intern with the NAACP Youth & College Division. My experience with the NAACP was a great experience. Before this summer I barely knew what the NAACP was about or what they did. Through my experience I’ve learned about the associations structure and how the NAACP operates. My experience inspired me so much that I became a member. As an incoming freshman I look forward to affiliating with the college chapter at Xavier.

This year, at the NAACP 102nd Annual Convention, the Criminal Justice Department will host a workshop for the NAACP Youth and College Division titled, “Stop the Violence, Start the Love: Addressing Youth Incarceration and Public Safety.” The workshop will bring together expert panelists who will lead a discussion about the role that youth activists can play in helping implement strategies that decrease our reliance on incarceration, increase public safety, and help heal communities of color that are most impacted by crime, violence, and mass incarceration.
On Monday, July 25, the NAACP Criminal Justice Department will highlight some key components of our work in a workshop entitled "Impact: Understanding the Collateral Consequences of the Criminal Justice System on Communities of Color".
This year’s Health Symposium on Saturday, July 23 will be historic, as the three African American Surgeon Generals will sit in one room to discuss the state of black health to NAACP Health advocates from across the country.
