Black Unemployment Rate Declines in January 2012

The Black worker monthly report from the University of California Berkeley Labor Center shows a dramatic decline in unemployment for African-Americans.  In December of 2011 the Black unemployment rate was 15.8% and in January of 2012 the Black unemployment rate was 13.6%.  The Black Employment Population Ratio also saw a significant improvement moving from 52.1% in December of 2011 to 52.9% in January of 2012.  Overall, total non-farm payroll employment increased by 243,000 jobs from last month.We will have to see if this healthy improvement in employment for African Americans is an aberration or the beginning of significant advances for African Americans.
