Digital Evangelist: Email for Organizing

Last July when I was charged with training NAACP members in digital media, I thought—here is a great opportunity for me to share my love for digital media with the NAACP family.  With that challenge in mind, I aim to teach folks about mobile, social media and everything in between.  My weekly blog will update you on my trainings; and give you info about how to sign up and equip yourself with the tools you need to disseminate your message well for your NAACP branch or chapter.

This week’s webinar is Email for Organizing. I will cover the best practices and uses for email. I will also discuss what makes an effective email – using email to present a narrative about an issue, especially when crisis meets opportunity.

Want to know what that means? Register and join me for the webinar this Thursday at 9:15pm Eastern Time.

Here are some examples of how to use email:

Publicizing events, including branch meetings

If you’re already publicizing your events via word of mouth or social media, email is a great addition to your strategy. You can get the word out to your email list to get as many people at your event as possible.

Promoting petitions and other calls to actions

You may have an online petition about an issue your branch is working maybe you have begun a letter writing campaign. Email is a great way to get even more people involved with your issues.

During last week’s webinar, I talked about the basics of using Facebook. I explained to participants why a Fan Page is better than a personal page for their unit, and gave some best practices for posting to a Facebook Fan Page. If you are thinking of starting a branch Fan Page or if your branch is already active on Facebook and wants to optimize your Facebook presence, contact me at lwilson@naacpnet.org and I’ll be happy to assist you.

And please make sure to join me on our future webinars! Topics and dates are below:

Lauren Wilson aka “NAACP Digital Evangelist” spreads the gospel of digital media throughout the NAACP.  Every week, she explores a different digital media topic teaching units how to use digital media tools to better organize and amplify their branches or chapters work. The weekly webinar occurs every Thursday evening at 9:15pm Eastern Standard Time (unless otherwise stated).
