Economic Opportunities in Our Communities Mini Summit
Posted on July 09, 2012 by Nicole E. Kenney, NAACP Economic Department
Today, the NAACP Economic Department will host our mini summit, entitled “Economic Opportunities in Our Communities” at the National Convention in Houston, Texas. The summit will feature panels focusing on community economic development and entrepreneurship. Both panels aim to encourage participants to identify economic development strategies to advance in their own communities as well as to enhance their overall capacity to advocate for economic justice in the larger African American community.
Economic scholars and practitioners will offer their insights and approaches for building economic equity in our communities through wealth and asset development, entrepreneurship, financial education and through identifying and leveraging economic resources. At the conclusion of the panel, participants will be invited to dialogue with panelists and each other to collectively brainstorm on ways to foster community asset and wealth building, entrepreneurship and small business development in African America communities. We look forward to a lively conversation and the opportunity to educate our community on how to achieve economic equality for all.
