The NAACP Legal Department ran its second and final day of its Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminars as part of the 2012 NAACP Convention in Houston, Texas at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Today’s program will include familiar topics such as voting rights and economic justice, as well as rapidly expanding topics like mass incarceration and Election Day relief.
One highlight of today’s CLE events was a practice demonstration focused on obtaining injunctive relief on Election Day. With the Convention’s headline heralding slogan being “Your power, your decision – vote,” the panel’s focus on ensuring fair voting practices was highly contemporaneous. This CLE also provided a refreshing format in that legal interns put on a mock interview with an attorney before making a mock appearance before a retired New York Supreme Court judge.
As with the previous day, each panel was met with passionate inquiries which were fielded by the experts on hand. The legal department will host office hours Thursday, so please stop by if you have any questions or concerns for our legal team.
Law is at the foundation of our way of life. Our history requires that we stay on the front line of ensuring that justice is truly just for all.
