Medgar Evers Membership Campaign

NAACP National Staff members at Arlington National Cemetery June 5, 2013 to honor Medgar Wiley Evers who was assassinated in Jackson, Mississippi June 12, 1963. Evers is revered as a civil rights activist and voter registration campaign organizer.

The Medgar Evers campaign will be two-fold – “Remember Medgar” and “He is ME”.

“Remember Medgar” (National Launch May 18-July 8)   By building the next generation of the NAACP, we are remembering Medgar and his legacy.  The goal of this campaign is to have each unit across the country recruit 50 new members.  If you have 50 members currently, all each member has to do is recruit one new member. To be counted for this campaign, all memberships and reports must be at National Headquarters by July 8, 2013 and must be clearly labeled "Remember Medgar".  We will celebrate units that have recruited at least 50 new members at the Annual Convention. This campaign will run for 50 days, May 18-July 8.

“He is ME” (Sept 1 -Oct 31 ) will focus specifically on building Youth and College membership through activism and advocacy while focusing on the current work of the NAACP and its impact on the lives of members and non-members today.  We are encouraging Y&C units to increase membership numbers by 50%.  The messaging will focus heavily on today’s activism and advocacy, communicating to prospective Youth and College members that the NAACP continues to make an impact today. Marketing materials will reflect this messaging and will highlight the Game Changers.  This work will be done in conjunction with the Youth and College division.  To be counted for this campaign, all memberships and reports must be at National Headquarters by October 31, 2013 and must be clearly labeled "He is ME".   This campaign will run Sept 1 – October 31

Top producing Units will be recognized in The Crisis Magazine.  Evaluation for Y&C increases will be as of January 31, 2013. Newly recruited members will receive a Medgar Evers Commemorative lapel pin while supplies last.  The national office will provide Units and State Conferences with marketing language and logos.
The Medgar Evers campaign will be two-fold – “Remember Medgar” and “He is ME”.
