The NAACP will host its 36th annual ACT-SO competition, July 17-20 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. The Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics will feature 27 competitions and 600 students. Featured students have cultivated projects over a year, which will be exhibited at the convention. These ACT-SO showcases give students the opportunity to compete on the national level. Designed to honor the excellent achievements of young people, the categories of the competitions include: Humanities, Business, Visual Arts, Performing Arts or Sciences/STEM.
While at the convention, students and guests will experience a celebration of youth achievement. The four-day event features special guest appearances and will include celebrity chef judges for the culinary competition this year. Not only will students be given the opportunity to exhibit their knowledge, they will also advance their learning through participation in Master Classes taught by acclaimed ACT-SO alum during the competition. The event ends in an awards ceremony, which will culminate the student’s hard work and feature a special tribute to Dr. Maya Angelou.
