NAACP co-sponsors Global Youth Unemployment Conference

By Dedrick Muhammad, NAACP Senior Director of Economic Programs

The problem of global youth unemployment has reached historic heights. In 2009,  unemployment for individuals between the ages of 16-24 increased by almost 7 million. This is about 35 times the increase in global youth unemployment that occurred before the recent global recession.  This unprecedented state of global youth unemployment inspired organizations from different parts of the world to sponsor a Global Youth Employment Conference.

The NAACP was one of the proud sponsors of this conference and our President and CEO, Benjamin Todd Jealous provided a keynote address.  Other sponsors of this conference included CNBC, The Blackstone Charitable Foundation, Bharti Foundation, the International Youth Foundation, Manpower, and Siemans.  As the newly appointed Senior Director of Economic Programs for the NAACP, I traveled with President  Jealous for this event.
