NAACP Economics Department presents for We Are One Conference December 1 - 4, 2011 in Phoenix, AZ

The NAACP is a proud sponsor and co-convener of the “We Are One Conference”, a national train-the-trainer event, which will embrace up to 1,000 labor/community organizers in Phoenix, Arizona December 1st through December 4th. This conference aims to empower African American and Latino leaders throughout the country to push a progressive economic agenda that fortifies the bonds between these communities and strengthens all Americans.
Benjamin Todd Jealous, President & CEO of NAACP, Janet Murguia, President & CEO of the National Council for La Raza and Judith Brown-Dianis, Co-Director of the Advancement Project will open the “We are One” conference by giving the welcome and discussing the importance of building African American and Latino bridges and broad based coalitions throughout the country. The conference also consists of various plenary sessions, panels and keynote luncheons that address key issues such as community mobilization, immigration, voters’ rights, human rights, jobs, education, housing, health care. The NAACP Economics Department will be presenting Economic Justice For All: From The Great Regression to Progressive Action. Throughout the conference participants will be invited to continue the dialogue by participating in a number of breakout sessions for developing strategies to mobilize grassroots efforts in their community around these social and economic issues. The conference will conclude with a Mass Rally at Occupy Phoenix. This conference was born out of a labor, human rights and civil rights coalition’s ( including the Council for Black Trade Unionists, Service Employees International Union, Labor Council for Latin American Advancement and Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance) desire to begin a greater movement where we do not talk about what others are doing to us, but we start demanding actions be taken which reflect the socioeconomic diversity of this country and lives up to its founding creed, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness".
The conference is open to all labor and community organizers who are interested in changing the landscape of politics and the conscientiousness in our communities.
