NAACP Launches Web Tools to Advance Diversity
Posted on April 11, 2013
Building off the release of the Opporutnity & Diversity Report Card: Hotel & Resort Industry, the NAACP has launched web advocacy tools to help facilitate inclusion and diversity practices in these leading hotels. The site features an interactive map highlighting diversity data for the top 100 tourism cities nationwide as well as an action guide for diversity advocacy.
The site encourages all consumers to request and use EEO-1 data as criteria to help us determine which hotels are most racially inclusive in their employment and procurement. The EEO-1 Form was originally created to address Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits employers from discriminating on the basis of race.
Using this data, consumers should speak with their wallets and let hotels know their inclusion practices are either acceptable or unacceptable. Over the past several decades, this tool has enabled us to advocate for corporations to create opportunities for African Americans and people of color to compete in the workplace and obtain business contracts. These opportunities not only grow African Americans’ businesses and communities, but also the nation’s economic strength.
