Pennsylvania NAACP, Students Stand in Support of Education
Posted on April 27, 2011
On April 26, thousands of students, administrators and public officials from across Pennsylvania gathered on the steps of the state Capitol in response to proposed statewide education budgets cuts that will exceed $1.2 billion. Proposed by PA Gov. Corbett, the budget cuts place in jeopardy a number of programs aimed at cultivating productive students & people, while threatening to drastically decrease funding for state schools like Penn State and Temple and shutter HBCUs like Lincoln & Cheyney Universities. The march took place just weeks after the NAACP launched a national "Misplaced Priorities" campaign, which proposes that states downsize prison populations and re-route funding toward education budgets.
