The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), a 501(C)(3) nonprofit and the nation’s preeminent civil and human rights organization, seeks an entrepreneurial, results-oriented Director of Individual Giving. The Director of Individual Giving will help develop a comprehensive individual giving revenue strategy for the NAACP that will impact growth over the next several years. She/he must have exceptional organizational and administrative skills, with the ability to plan, set and meet goals and objectives and follow-through. The Director of Individual Giving should have strong interpersonal skills and have an entrepreneurial and creative approach to development, as well as a genuine affinity for the mission and values of the NAACP. He/she should also be comfortable in a fast-paced environment that has experienced rapid growth and ongoing change. The overall ability to set, pursue, and attain achievable goals is a key quality.
The Director of Individual Giving is a member of the development team, reporting to the Executive Vice President of Development. Together, he/she works closely with the Executive Vice of Development to sustain current fundraising initiatives and to develop strategies to broaden the fundraising potential of the NAACP. The Director of Individual Giving works closely with the Finance, Foundation Board, Executive Vice President of Development, the NAACP Executive, and Board office, Finance, and manages a team consisting of the Major Gifts Officer and Annual Fund Manager.

Reporting to The Executive Vice President for Development and working in close partnership with other members of the organization’s leadership, the Director of Individual Giving is primarily responsible for:
- Directing three areas of individual giving fundraising including Individual, Major Gifts, Annual Fund, Planned Giving, and Direct Mail
- Working closely with the Executive Vice President of Development to create and implement a strategic and diversified fundraising plan that will guide the organization to meet fundraising goals, maximizing opportunities around individual support.
- Expand and diversify the NAACP’s donor base/pipeline by maintaining a proactive, creative leadership role in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual contributions
- Work closely with the NAACP Executive team and members of the board in building their fundraising capacity
- Manage prospect identification, analysis and research
- Manage direct mail process
- Set revenue budget goals and manage an expense budget
- Ensure that the appropriate systems, staffing and procedures are in place to support fundraising goals
- Work closely with the Development team to ensure high-quality proposals, grants, reports, mailings, and acknowledgements required to support ongoing fundraising activities
- Manage and participate in the planning, implementation and coordination of strategic and high-impact special events to cultivate or steward individual donors
The ideal candidate for this position will possess many, if not all, of the following professional qualifications, competencies and personal qualities:
- Minimum of 5 years professional fundraising experience, including, but not limited to, individual, solicitations
- Demonstrated ability to research and generate leads
- Excellent networking skills;
- Deep seated interest in building the development function of a growing/learning organization;
- Proven problem solving skills;
- Ability to work independently and as a team player;
- High level of analytical and organizational skills,
- Exceptional writing skills; detail oriented, and ability to handle multiple projects;
- Ability to exercise initiative in a hands-on environment,
- Ability to work well with a diverse constituency, and
- Possess commitment to excellence and to the mission of the NAACP
- Bachelors degree preferred
