LOS ANGELES, CA – NAACP President and CEO Cornell William Brooks issued the following statement regarding the election of Hayma Washington as the new Chairman and CEO of the Television Academy:
“On behalf of the NAACP, I extend our congratulations to Hayma “Screech” Washington on his election to the post of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Television Academy, and to the organization on the milestone of welcoming the first African American to this post.
In addition to Mr. Washington’s strong professional credentials, a long list of award-winning credits and distinguished service with such entities as the Producers Guild of America and the Television Academy Producers Peer Group, we especially commend his commitment to raising and improving the representation of Americans of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, ages, gender identities, sexual orientations and level of ability.
We look forward to working with Mr. Washington as we continue to collaborate with the Television Academy to make positive strides across the entertainment industry, both behind and in front of the camera.”
