NAACP Statement on Senate Vote to Advance Brett Kavanaugh Nomination

October 5, 2018 / By Array

The NAACP released the following statement regarding the Senate’s decision to advance the Kavanaugh nomination:

“Today’s Senate vote to advance a Supreme Court nominee whose record and lack of integrity, temperament & impartiality was a monumental mistake that will affect generations to come. This should have disqualified him from serving on the Court not emboldened Senators to vote for him. To say that we’re deeply disappointed in the announcements of Republican Senator from Maine, Susan Collins, and Democratic Senator from West Virginia, Joe Manchin on their intent to support Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination is an understatement. Their announcements neither addressed the deeply troubling display of partisanship & hostility that have caused lawyers, law professors, and even a retired Supreme Court justice to denounce him. We’re are not looking at a Supreme Court that could spend generations rolling back social, racial, economic protections that we as a nation fought so hard to institute.” – Derrick Johnson, NAACP President and CEO.
