On August 1, 2017, the U.S. Senate approved S. 860, the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Reauthorization Act of 2017, bipartisan legislation that reauthorizes, updates, and improves the 1974 Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA). Similar legislation, H.R. 1809, the Juvenile Justice Reform Act of 2017 passed the House of Representatives on May 24, 2017. In both the House and the Senate, the legislation passed with strong (unanimous) bipartisan support; for more than 40 years, the JJDPA has helped states build systems that protected kids and promoted public safety.
