The new health care proposal currently being debated in Congress – and being promoted heavily by House leadership – would decimate health care coverage, returning many of us to where we were before the enactment of the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. “The ACA,” or “Obamacare”) or worse. According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, under the currently proposed “American Health Care Act” 24 million Americans will lose their health insurance within the next decade, and the cost of health care would increase substantially. What is worse is that those most hurt by the new bill would be low- and moderate- income American men, women, children and families, for whom a serious illness can be devastating, especially when they do not have health insurance to help defray the costs.
