Young v. Bryco; City of Chicago v. Beretta U.S.A. Corp (2004)

821 N.E. 2d 1099 (Ill. 2004)

These suits contend that firearms manufacturers threaten public health, safety and welfare by refusing to exercise control and oversight over their distribution chains. More specifically, the actions allege that firearm manufacturers funnel excessive numbers of weapons to suburban areas around Chicago, knowing and intending that the firearms will be brought into the city, thereby creating a public nuisance. Other amici include the American Academy of Pediatrics, Physicians for Social Responsibility, Doctors Against Handgun Injury and Trial Lawyers for Public Justice.
