NAACP v. St. Landry Parish

U.S. District Court Western District of Louisiana, No. CV-03-0610.

NAACP filed lawsuit against St. Landry Parish School Board and Council because their redistricting plans violated Section 2 of the 1965 Voting Rights Act by diluting the voting strength of black voters in St. Landry Parrish. Due to the NAACP's efforts in this case, the parties reached a favorable settlement creating five districts with black voting age and black registration majorities. This plan adds two additional majority African-American districts.
