NC NAACP Leads Annual HKonJ March
On February 11, 2012, the North Carolina NAACP State Conference joined more than 100 coalition partners in Raleigh, NC for an annual march on Jones Street to the North Carolina State Legislature. Now in its sixth year, the Historic Thousands on Jones Street (HKonJ) People’s Assembly has, since its inception, served as a rallying call for change to those with political influence. Last year, coalition members successfully took on the Wake County School Board in a successful effort to prevent the resegregation of schools within the county.
The HKonJ coalition rallied under a 14 -point agenda to ensure that citizens are protected equally under the law and that a space is created for good, safe jobs and schools within the state of North Carolina. NAACP President & CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous attended the annual event, which began on the campus of Raleigh's Shaw University.
