Official representing Miller acted in his capacity as a private attorney

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) said today it has not filed a lawsuit on behalf of musician Corey Miller, of Louisiana.
NAACP Interim General Counsel Angela Ciccolo said news reports of NAACP involvement in the case are erroneous. "Although we support the rights of all defendants to have a fair trial and due process," said Ciccolo, "we have not endorsed or approved any lawsuit regarding Miller."
Reports that Louisiana NAACP officials represented Miller in a lawsuit that alleges his civil and constitutional rights were violated emerged after his attorney, Ernest Johnson, president of the Louisiana NAACP State Conference, held a news conference Wednesday, April 6. Ciccolo said Johnson acted in his capacity as a private attorney and not on behalf of the NAACP.
Miller, whose stage name is C-Miller, was convicted of second-degree murder in the death of a 16-year-old who was killed in 2003 in a nightclub in suburban New Orleans.
