Summary:

Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization. Its members throughout the United States and the world are the premier advocates for civil rights in their communities, conducting voter mobilization and monitoring equal opportunity in the public and private sectors.

Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the National Field Director, the duties and responsibilities of the National Director, Youth & College Division include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Supervise the staff of the Youth & College Division
  • Work with the National Field Director, Regional Directors, and National Youth Work Committee to develop youth leadership and youth unit capacity within the membership at the national, regional, state, and local levels
  • Work with the Director of Unit Administration to increase and maintain compliance of Youth & College Units
  • Work with the Field & Membership Department staff to develop recruitment programs, resources for growing membership of the organization
  • Develop and implement national campaigns to engage youth units & young adult standing committees to address key “Game Changers” as defined in the NAACP Strategic Plan
  • Collaborate with program department directors to ensure integration of issue area advocacy in Youth & College Division engagement
  • Manage the work of the National Youth Work Committee and strategic partners in setting collective goals to support the organization’s strategic initiatives featured in the NAACP strategic plan, catered toward youth members
  • In partnership with the National Training Director, assist in the development of training tools and other credible resources that will build capacity of our local units
  • Develop work plans and evaluation tools to measure and track goals and benchmarks
  • Plan all Youth Programs for the Annual Convention
  • Represent the Association in meetings with strategic partners as directed by leadership
  • In coordination with the President and CEO and the Senior Vice President of Development, maintain and strengthen relationships with current funders as well as assist in the development of strategies and relationships for new funding sources
  • Perform other job-related duties as may be assigned by the National Field Director, the Chief Operating Officer, and/or the President and CEO.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this position will possess many, if not all, of the following professional qualifications, competencies and personal qualities:

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university
  • At least three (3) years of organizing experience, preferably in a national non-profit organization
  • Familiarity with NAACP history, structure, mission, and programs
  • Expertise in community, non-profit, and non-partisan issue-based organizing with specific skills including organizational development and management, grassroots activism, and education and leadership development
  • Solid understanding and experience with social media and e-advocacy campaigns
  • Ability to work in teams, participate in cross-departmental planning, and work with a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Experience with strategic planning and the creation and implementation of issue campaigns
  • Ability to handle multiple priority projects and meet established timelines and reporting requirements
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Excellent analytical, presentation, and leadership skills
  • Manage internal committees and overall deadline and goals
  • Provide units and strategic partners with one-on-one technical assistance and support on developing, implementing and evaluating organizational plans
  • Proven experience in supervision and personnel management
  • Strong conflict resolution and problem solving skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work non-standard hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed
