NAACP Statement on Fast for Families Immigration Reform MovementDecember 03, 2013
(Washington, DC) – The NAACP released the following statement in support of the Fast for Families protest outside of the U.S. Capitol. The activists have been fasting for over 20 days to generate awareness of the need for action on immigration reform.
From NAACP Interim President and CEO Lorraine C. Miller:
“The men and women fasting are absolutely right: it is past time for the House of Representatives to take up comprehensive immigration reform,” stated Interim NAACP President and CEO Lorraine C. Miller. “These activists are bravely shining a spotlight on the pain caused by our nation’s broken immigration system. This is not just a brown issue or a black issue – it is an American issue and a matter of human rights. We must heed their calls and pass commonsense immigration reform now.”
