A Victory is Won!

President Obama recently proposed to Congress a budget designed to make higher education both more affordable and more accessible. Thanks to the hard work of thousands of young people, including members of the NAACP Youth & College Division, the initial budget proposal was passed in both the House and the Senate. The NAACP’s College Access and Affordability Campaign would like to thank the Representatives and Senators who voted to pass the budget, and the youth who exhibited strength in numbers by contacting their local Representatives about the proposal.

And while the passage of these budget resolutions is certainly something to be celebrated, it’s important to remember that it is still only a first step towards making change into a reality. Now more than ever, we must speak out in support of the provisions of President Obama’s budget plan, including those ensuring that everyone has equal access to higher education.  The NAACP encourages you to speak out and continue to remind our Congress members that money we spend today represents a critical investment in our future.
