NAACP Youth & College Division.........Celebrating 71 Years of Youth Leadership & Activism

The NAACP believes strongly that future leaders must be developed today, and such development is ongoing in the Youth & College Division, created in 1936.  Today there are more than 30,000 young people representing 600 Youth Councils, High School Chapters and College Chapters actively involved in the fight for civil rights. The NAACP has one of the largest organized groups of young people of any secular organization in the country.

The NAACP Y&C Division Partners with Demos on

A Better Deal Conference: Reclaiming Economic Security for a New Generation

It's getting harder for young adults to get ahead in America. Compared to previous generations, today's 20-somethings earn less, carry more debt and pay more for everything from health care to housing. With young people voting in record numbers, it's time to put this generation's economic crisis on the national agenda and build a movement for a better deal.

On May 8 & May 9 hundreds of young activists will gather in DC to learn about their generation's economic crisis. The NAACP Youth & College Division is proud to join Demos and other youth organizations from around the country as a partner in “A Better Deal Conference”.  This conference is not just about ideas, though – it's about action. Attendees will get the tools to connect politics to the personal financial struggles of young voters, and get hooked up with others to build a movement for a better deal in their communities.  This conference is FREE and limited travel scholarships are available.  The address to the conference is below and more info is attached.

The VOTE HARD campaign

move in movement

The VOTE HARD campaign, an initiative of the NAACP Youth & College Division and the NAACP National Voter Fund, seeks to empower voters that are within the youngest part of the electorate. The idea is simply to encourage people to not only THINK HARD but to VOTE HARD. The campaign will consist of a three-point empowerment strategy focused on Education Outreach, Grassroots Outreach and Social Outreach. NAACP youth units will conduct various voter registration initiatives, education forums and mobilization efforts on college campuses and in the community.

The argument remains constant, how does an age old institution such as the NAACP continue to reach out to its constituents. The solution is that no other organization in this country has the grassroots organizing structure of the NAACP. More importantly, the NAACP Youth and College Division is the only youth, grassroots organization that reaches over 500 cities and campuses around the country.
