Action Alert

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is Fired

November 14, 2018

On November 7, 2018, Jefferson “Jeff” Beauregard Sessions III resigned his position as U.S. Attorney General at the request of President Trump.  The NAACP had strongly opposed then-Senator Sessions’ confirmation to this position in early February, 2017.

Going forward, the NAACP strongly urges President Trump to nominate an individual to serve as Attorney General who has demonstrated a strong commitment to the constitutional promises of civil rights, voting rights and civil liberties protection and enforcement for all, and who has consistently articulated respect for and promised to promote the civil and human rights of all people, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, place of national origin, sexual preference or station in life.  We further urge the US Senate to thoroughly investigate the past actions and positions of any nominee on his or her duty to protect the civil rights, civil liberties, and human rights of all humans.

For more information and for a copy of Mr. Sessions’ letter of resignation, please see the attached Action Update.
