Associate General Counsel, NAACP
In June 2004, Anson Asaka joined the NAACP Legal Department staff. Mr. Asaka primarily handles internal legal matters for the Association such as contracts, insurance, estates and administrative proceedings. In addition, Mr. Asaka’s practice areas include public accommodations discrimination, housing discrimination, employment discrimination and voting rights. For several years, he participated in the NAACP Operation Bike Week Justice, an effort to ensure that all Myrtle Beach, South Carolina tourists are treated equally and fairly regardless of race. During the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections, he supervised the NAACP’s Election Protection Command Center. On July, 12, 2009, Mr. Asaka received the NAACP Staff Lawyer of the Year Award.
Anson graduated cum laude from Howard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1992. In 1996, Anson graduated from Rutgers LawSchool in Newark, New Jersey. He is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York.
Prior to joining the NAACP Legal Department, he worked for a law firm in Washington, D.C. specializing in landlord and tenant law, estate matters and civil litigation. Before working in D.C., he worked for a personal injury law firm in East Orange, New Jersey.
